The power of LinkedIn, by the numbers

Staying on top of emerging trends and recruiting practices is part of my job as a career consultant. It’s also a requirement for my certification as a LinkedIn Digital Career Strategist by the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches.

I recently completed the LinkedIn recertification training and wanted to share a few statistics on LinkedIn by the numbers:

#1: LinkedIn is the most-cited domain for professional queries in AI searches. That means that when you or a recruiter asks ChatGPT or Gemini about someone, LinkedIn is the top domain cited in the search results. If you didn’t already think that having a LinkedIn profile matters for your professional presence, this statistic should convince you.

75%: That’s the number of LinkedIn citations that come from individual member profiles. The remaining 25% come from company posts. This is a huge testament to the potential reach of your posts. If you didn’t think your individual posts matters, they do. Just because you aren’t a Fortune 500 company or lack a massive following doesn’t meant you can’t gain high visibility with your individual posts.

48%: Nearly half of citations to LinkedIn posts are for content published in the past three months. That’s no surprise, given that recent content analyzing news or sharing information people find helpful will rise to the top. On the flip side, one notable aspect of LinkedIn posts is they have impressive staying power. It’s not unusual for an older post to catch a second wind as people discover the post anew, especially if the content discusses a topic of lasting interest.

These statistics show the power of LinkedIn to substantiate and strengthen your professional presence. As the ever-insightful training instructor Robin Reshwan shared, LinkedIn has become far more than an online resume. Your profile can be a crucial asset for recruiter searches and a credible source that AI tools search and cite when responding to queries.
