Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I hire you? What distinguishes you from other résumé writers?
I'm double certified both as a Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW) and as a Certified LinkedIn Digital Career Strategist (CDCS). As an active member of the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches, I stay on top of the latest hiring trends and strategic job market insights. I personally work with each client so that every résumé I write is an original creation, inspired by you. You can read what other clients say about working with me here. I was rigorously vetted by the freelance consulting platform Fiverr and hold a credential there as a Top-Rated, Vetted Pro.
What is your background?
I bring a multidisciplinary background in science, technology, law, and policy. I hold advanced degrees in law and public policy and Bachelor’s degrees in neurobiology and international affairs. I worked for nearly a decade in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Here is my White House bio. Each day, I advised the President’s Science Advisor and the U.S. Chief Technology Officer of emerging issues of national importance. From epidemics and energy to national security and patent policy, I have worked on a wide range of issues. I leverage additional experience from working for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on privacy matters and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on legislation and regulations. You can read more about my background here.
Do you write ATS-friendly résumés and cover letters?
Yes. Every résumé I create for clients is strategically designed to maximize performance in Application Tracking Systems (ATS). ATS streamlines the hiring process by using software to filter and score job applications. If you want your résumé to survive initial screening and reach a human hiring manager, you need to know how to optimize your résumé for ATS. I wrote a blog on how to do just that. If you’re wondering how well your résumé performs, get in touch.
Do you use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to write résumés or cover letters?
No, I do not. In brief, the problem with using Generative AI to write a résumé is it draws from public sources to create content. You want a résumé that stands out from the rest, not one that recycles information synthesized from widely available online resources. When Gen AI writes your résumé, you risk ending up with a product that is inaccurate and that eerily echoes the same language used by other applicants. In addition, I do not outsource proofreading or first drafts to other copywriters or editors. When you hire me, I guarantee that every word on your revamped résumé is written by me, inspired by you and the original contributions you bring to the world.
Can you optimize my LinkedIn profile?
Yes. I am certified as a LinkedIn Digital Career Strategist and specialize in optimizing LinkedIn profiles, particularly for professionals seeking new employment or who are trying to break into senior leadership roles. In my standard LinkedIn service, I perform a comprehensive review and audit of your existing LinkedIn profile. I identify areas for improvement and send you more than five pages (single-spaced!) of detailed written feedback on how you can strengthen your profile. You then implement the changes and update your profile as you see fit. My typical turnaround time for LinkedIn audit + feedback services is less than a week. In my premium service, I log in to your profile and directly implement the updates myself. That service is usually only available with a résumé revamp given how much rewriting is often needed to enhance the LinkedIn profile.
What job sectors do you write résumés and cover letters for?
I have worked with clients in virtually every industry and sector. I have written résumés and LinkedIn profiles for more than 300 clients spanning the private, nonprofit, and public sectors. My clients work in technology, health care, medicine, finance, marketing, communications, entertainment, media, film production, the environment, academia, research science, biotechnology, education, philanthropy, government, and the arts.
I work in a highly technical field. Can you write my résumé?
Yes! In the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, I worked alongside Nobel laureates and Silicon Valley executives and entrepreneurs. Every day, I translated technical information into plain English to communicate effectively with decision-makers. I will do the same for you. The most technical résumé I’ve written was for a rocket science engineer. I enjoyed learning the difference between supersonic and hypersonic when rewriting his résumé.
How quickly can you revamp or rewrite my résumé?
Once we begin working together, it usually takes about 2-4 weeks for me to complete a full redesign and rewrite. I am sometimes able to offer expedited processing for clients with more immediate deadlines. For an estimate of my current availability and turnaround times, email me a copy of your current résumé, along with a brief description of what you seek to do with it. For example, are you seeking to transition from a government job to the private sector? Are you trying to break into a senior leadership role? Are you returning to the workforce after some time away? Are you applying for an MBA program? The résumé I write for each of these scenarios is different.
How does payment work?
Clients who order my services through Fiverr or my website pay in full at the beginning of the project. Project delivery timelines are guaranteed only when you place an order. Most of the time, I have a queue of clients waiting to begin projects with me. You join the queue by placing an order. Both Fiverr and my website accept major credit cards and other common payment methods. If you have questions about payment processing, contact me.
What are some of the most memorable résumés you’ve written?
What I love about this work is I get to work with amazing people from around the world. I remember every client because each one has an individual career journey to share. Here are just a few of the clients I’ve worked with who presented unusual and very cool backgrounds:
A food product scientist who invented one of the world’s best-selling potato chips.
A VP for a major music label, who discovered many of the talented artists you hear every day.
A rocket science engineer whose work was so highly technical, I needed to learn the difference between supersonic and hypersonic to write his résumé.
Why is your logo a turtle?
Thanks for asking! I have a lifelong love and respect for turtles. They’ve survived for millions of years and adapted to ocean depths and dry deserts. I found a way to channel my love for turtles into a career, becoming an environmental enforcement attorney for the U.S. government. To me, turtles are a living example of playing the long game. They embody the pursuit of what inspires and motivates me. Every day, I find fulfillment in working to protect turtles and enabling my clients to go after their own personal dreams.
